The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services is undertaking street maintenance projects from May 20 to May 26. This initiative involves the upkeep of sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of roads. The department aims to ensure safe travel for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and other road users.
Residents and businesses in areas scheduled for resurfacing will be notified in advance through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will also be placed prior to the commencement of work. Compliance with these signs is essential to avoid fines and towing.
The resurfacing schedule may change due to factors like weather conditions, equipment availability, coordination with utility work, and other city projects.
The streets scheduled for resurfacing during this period include Washington Street (from Norton Court to Cameron Street), Queen Street (from North West Street to North Union Street), and North Quaker Lane (from Duke Street to West Braddock Road). Recently completed projects include the 100 block of North Royal Street (from King Street to Cameron Street).
