The deadline for Virginia residents to register or update their voter registration for the June 18, 2024 Dual Primary Election was set for May 28. After this date, voters can utilize the Same Day Registration process, which requires casting a provisional ballot.
The election will feature contests for either the Democratic nominations for Mayor and City Council or the Republican nomination for United States Senate. In these elections, voters can participate in either primary but not both. They must inform the Pollbook officer of their choice without being challenged on it.
Voters who have changed addresses since they last voted should ensure their registration reflects their current address. Registration status can be checked online at vote.elections.virginia.gov, via email at voters@alexandriava.gov, or by calling 703.746.4050. Failure to update registration records before the deadline may result in casting a provisional ballot through Same Day Registration.
Several methods are available for new registrations and address updates: online submission at vote.elections.virginia.gov before midnight on May 28; in-person registration at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections by 5 p.m.; or mailing a completed application form postmarked by May 28 to the same office.
Newly registered or transferred voters will receive information letters within a week of registering.
Same Day Registration is available starting May 29 and must be done in person at early voting locations or assigned voting locations on election day based on residential addresses.
All registered Virginia voters are eligible to vote early or by mail until June 15 at 5 p.m. Sample ballots and full voting hours are available at alexandriava.gov/Elections.
Ballot drop boxes will be operational from June 18 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., with an outdoor drop box under surveillance accessible around-the-clock until June 18 at 7 p.m. Mail-in ballots must be returned by mail or drop box by specific deadlines outlined by election officials.
