Alexandria opens nominations for beautification awards amid city’s anniversary

The Alexandria Beautification Commission has opened nominations for the 2024 Beautification Awards, coinciding with the city's 275th birthday celebrations. The awards aim to honor buildings, homes, properties, and communities that enhance Alexandria's aesthetic appeal.

Nominations are being accepted in residential, commercial, architectural, and community categories. This year introduces a focus on balconies visible from public areas to further showcase urban charm.

Judging criteria include plant materials, design, architecture, environmentally sustainable practices, maintenance, and neighborhood context. Nominees are encouraged to consult the digital flyer for guidance on sustainable practices.

"This year's Beautification Awards hold special significance as we celebrate Alexandria's 275th birthday," stated Yanique Revers, Chair of the Awards Subcommittee. "It's an opportunity for us to showcase our city's timeless beauty while also encouraging green initiatives that will contribute to its preservation for generations to come."

Nominations close at 11:59 PM EST on May 24, 2024. Residents and organizations are urged to participate by submitting their entries.
