During the City of Alexandria's Council Legislative Meeting on February 27, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) provided updates on community engagement efforts for the proposed Potomac Yard Entertainment District (PYED). City experts also discussed potential impacts and fiscal projections for the project.
The PYED is expected to generate $33.7 million during Phase 1 of its construction. This revenue will help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors. The costs associated with servicing the district are anticipated to be fully covered, with additional funds allocated for new programs and services in Alexandria. This financial contribution is projected to grow annually.
JBG SMITH, the development partner for the project, has pledged to preserve 500 units of affordable workforce housing in Alexandria, focusing on the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood. This effort supports Alexandria's goal of creating 2,250 committed affordable workforce housing units by 2030.
To further engage with the community, several pop-up events are scheduled where participants can learn about the PYED project and ask questions to city and project experts. These events include:
- March 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library.
- March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Potomac Yard-VT Metrorail Station South Entrance.
