The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project's documentary "Resolved: Never Again" will be broadcast on WHUT, the local Public Broadcasting Station, from November 27 through December 9. The film provides a 50-minute exploration of Alexandria's history, covering its establishment in 1749 and its involvement in the domestic slave trade. It also addresses the lynchings of Joseph McCoy and Benjamin Thomas and modern efforts to address this past. Produced by Emmy Award-winning journalist Robin Hamilton, the documentary features interviews with local leaders such as Mayor Justin Wilson and former Police Chief Don Hayes.
In addition to the documentary screening, several events are scheduled throughout Alexandria. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is hosting a gingerbread decorating event on December 8, where participants can learn about local architecture while creating edible facades based on historic buildings. The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum will host a free family holiday magic show on December 4 and late-night exhibit viewings on select evenings in December.
Other notable events include the Scottish Walk Open House at Carlyle House Historic Park on December 7 and ship biscuit ornament-making at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum that same day. Concerts featuring traditional music will take place at The Lyceum with performances by Becky Tracy and Keith Murphy on December 12, followed by Diarmuid Ó Meachair and Matt Mulqueen performing Irish music on December 19.
Throughout these activities, Historic Alexandria encourages community engagement with its programs while highlighting its ongoing need for donations to support educational initiatives.
