Two significant parades will take place in Alexandria on Saturday, December 7, 2024, as part of the city's biggest holiday weekend. The 53rd Annual Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, sponsored by Wegmans, will start in the morning. Later in the day, the 24th Annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, sponsored by Amazon, will commence with waterfront festivities and an evening parade.
To ensure safety during these events, road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented. The Scottish Christmas Walk Parade begins at S. St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets at 11 a.m., ending at Market Square around 1 p.m. Details are available at ALXScottishWalk.com.
The Holiday Boat Parade starts with dockside activities from 2 to 8 p.m., with the parade itself running from about 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Further information can be found at ALXBoatParade.com.
A one-way traffic pattern on Union Street between Duke St. and Queen St., effective from approximately 3 p.m., aims to alleviate traffic congestion during the Boat Parade. King Street's pedestrian-only area will extend to include the 200 block for local access only.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid closed roads and adhere to parking signs for safety reasons. Businesses should inform employees and customers about potential disruptions and plan deliveries accordingly.
Road closures include sections of King St., N. Royal St., Wilkes St., S. Pitt St., S. Royal St., S. Saint Asaph St., Wolfe St., N. Saint Asaph St., N. Pitt St., Queen St., Fairfax St., Strand St., Lee St., and Prince St.
