The City of Alexandria has introduced a new initiative, Eco-City Homes, aimed at promoting sustainable living among its residents. This program is designed to help Alexandrians save energy and money while enhancing the comfort, efficiency, and health of their homes. Additionally, it offers guidance on home energy improvements that may qualify for substantial federal incentives.

Eco-City Homes caters to both renters and homeowners by providing information and resources through its website. Residents can find details about federal tax incentives, utility incentives, income- and age-specific free programs, home energy assessments, weatherization techniques, electrification options (such as converting from gas to electric appliances), residential renewable energy solutions, water efficiency measures, waste reduction strategies including recycling and composting, eco-friendly landscaping practices, and more.

To participate in the recognition aspect of the program, residents are encouraged to complete a short online checklist. There are tailored applications for renters, condo owners, and homeowners to accommodate different actions each group can undertake. Participants will receive a yard sign and window cling as part of the recognition program along with guidance on further steps they can take.

The City of Alexandria provides reasonable disability accommodations upon request. Interested individuals should contact Samantha Heitsch via email at Samantha.Heitsch@alexandriava.gov or call 703.472.9504 using Virginia Relay 711.

For those who require communication in languages other than English, free interpretation and translation services are available by emailing LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or calling 703.746.3960.
