The City of Alexandria is seeking community feedback on design options for John Ewald Park, located at 4452 Duke St. The initiative includes a series of events aimed at gathering input from residents to shape the final design of the park.
The park spans 3.88 acres in the West End and currently features a lighted basketball court, playground, parking lot, and open grass area. Recommendations for improvements were initially established in 2015 following a planning process for each of the city’s 19 neighborhood parks.
City staff will present concept designs during several meetings. These events include virtual meetings and open houses where residents can view display boards, discuss design options with staff, and provide feedback.
The first virtual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, at 7 p.m., accessible via a Zoom link. During this session, city staff will offer an overview of site data, survey results, and park design concepts. The designs will be available on the project webpage and displayed in the park by December 11. An online survey will also launch on this date.
An open house is set for Monday, December 16, at 7 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center. This event allows attendees to engage directly with staff about the designs while enjoying light refreshments.
A second virtual meeting is planned for Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 7 p.m., again accessible through a Zoom link. Staff will present preferred designs and gather additional feedback. The updated concept design will be posted online and displayed in the park by January 30.
Another open house follows on Monday, February 10, at 7 p.m., also held at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center.
