Daingerfield Island, Gravelly Point, Roaches Run, and Jones Point Park have been closed as part of the ongoing response to the recent aircraft collision over the Potomac River. The United States Park Police advises pedestrians to avoid these areas and comply with police instructions. Drivers are also asked not to stop on the side of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Residents of Alexandria should anticipate local disruptions due to recovery operations following the tragic incident on January 29.

The Mount Vernon Trail is currently inaccessible north of its intersection with the Four Mile Run Trail. Those wishing to proceed north are advised to use the Four Mile Run Trail instead. The Alexandria Fire Department is actively working along the Waterfront for debris removal, and residents are urged to keep away from recovery zones where fire department personnel and vehicles are present. It is important for public safety that all signs and first responder directions are followed.

Officials recognize that residents may be curious or concerned about the situation. Visitors to the waterfront are strongly discouraged from touching or collecting any objects they suspect may be linked to this incident. Instead, they should immediately contact 9-1-1 to report such findings.

For updates on closures affecting National Park properties, individuals can visit nps.gov or mountvernontrail.org. Further announcements regarding additional closures within Alexandria will be made available at alexandriava.gov as new information emerges.
