Local residents and stakeholders in Alexandria's Landmark/Van Dorn Corridor are invited to engage in a walk-and-talk event designed to discuss community health and neighborhood dynamics. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., beginning at the ALIVE! Food Hub located at 510-F S Van Dorn Street, Alexandria, VA 22304.

This initiative is part of the City’s 2024 Community Health Assessment, organized by the Alexandria Health Department, ALIVE!, NoVA RAFT, the Patrick Henry K-8 School Parent Teacher Association, and the West End Business Association. Feedback from participants will play a crucial role in identifying the city's primary health needs and will contribute to shaping the upcoming five-year Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

Participants will depart from ALIVE! in small groups, walking a one-mile loop, sharing personal insights and observations regarding the neighborhood. This information will aid long-term planning, with city staff present to address immediate issues and suggestions.

The event is open to all ages, with refreshments and snacks available. Interpretation services can be arranged upon request, and residents with accessibility needs are encouraged to reach out for reasonable accommodations. Transportation and parking information can be found on Alexandria’s transit resources.

For residents not located within the Landmark/Van Dorn area, there is an opportunity to contribute to a community health photo album by documenting how their environments impact health.

Additional resources and details about the walk-and-talk event and other community health initiatives can be accessed on the CHA/CHIP website.

Media personnel planning to attend must RSVP to Eve Elliott by April 23. All media-related queries should be directed to Eve Elliott via email at eve.elliott@vdh.virginia.gov or by phone at 804.467.5160.
