The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities has announced the registration details for its upcoming 2024 Summer Power-On/Power-Up Program. This program is designed for elementary-aged youth entering 1st – 6th grade in Fall 2024, as well as participants entering 6th – 10th grade in Fall 2024.

The Summer Power-On/Power-Up Program will run from Monday, June 17, to Friday, August 9, 2024. The program fee is $575 for the summer, with reduced rates available for those who qualify for free/reduced-price school meals or receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) benefits. It is important to note that program fees may increase after July 1.

This program is exclusively open to City of Alexandria residents. To participate, residents must go through the pre-registration and registration process. The pre-registration period will take place from February 5 to February 10, with pre-registration and financial assistance forms available online or for pickup and drop-off at various designated locations. These locations include the Lee Center Registration and Reservation Office, Charles Houston Recreation Center, Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center, Mount Vernon Recreation Center, Patrick Henry Recreation Center, and William Ramsay Recreation Center.

During the pre-registration period, applicants are required to complete and submit the necessary forms to verify their eligibility. All submissions will be entered into a computerized lottery system to determine the order of eligible applicants. In the event that there are more applicants than available spots, a waitlist will be generated. Selected applicants will be notified via email and/or phone starting from February 14, and they must complete the enrollment process by February 20.

If there are any remaining openings after the initial pre-registration period, general online-only registration will open on Wednesday, February 21 at 9 a.m. On Thursday, February 22, both in-person and online registration options will be available for any remaining spots. In-person registration can be done at any neighborhood recreation center during their operating hours.
