The City of Alexandria is marking National Sexual Assault Awareness Month this April with a variety of events aimed at supporting survivors and promoting community awareness. These efforts underscore the pervasive nature of sexual assault, which can affect individuals regardless of age or gender.

A series of activities sponsored by the city's Sexual Assault Center (SAC) will take place throughout the month. Key events include the Pinwheel Garden planting for Child Abuse Awareness on April 4 at Charles Hill Park, and the "Embrace Your Voice" poetry share on April 29 at the Lyceum, co-sponsored by Doorways and Friends of Guest House.

The City also encourages residents to participate in Denim Day on April 30 by wearing denim and sharing with #DenimDay to show support for sexual violence survivors. Visitors to local restaurants will find SAC-themed coasters and coffee sleeves, encouraging those in need of assistance to seek help.

Exhibitions addressing violence against women can be viewed at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center and the Alexandria Police Department throughout April. Additionally, residents are invited to donate to the Sexual Assault Center or volunteer to support its mission.

The Sexual Assault Center provides resources and services for survivors and their support networks. More information is available on their website or via a 24/7 hotline. In emergencies, individuals should contact 911.

For reasonable disability accommodations, interested parties should reach out to the provided contact at the City of Alexandria.
