The Alexandria Police Department is inviting residents to participate in the 51st session of its Community Police Academy, scheduled from September 11 to November 13, 2024. This program offers a chance for Alexandrians to learn about the department's administrative philosophy, internal policies, and the principles guiding police services. The academy will cover topics such as patrol operations, crime prevention, crime scene investigations, criminal investigations, and the Special Operations Team.
Classes will be held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Police Department Headquarters on Wheeler Avenue. The program is free but requires participants to volunteer for at least ten hours annually after graduation in activities like parades and road races.
The class size is limited to twenty-five participants who must commit to attending all nine sessions. Eligible applicants must be at least 21 years old and either live or work in Alexandria. A criminal history check will be conducted for final approval.
The curriculum aims to enhance understanding of police operations and foster better community relations. More information and applications are available online or by contacting the Volunteer Office via email. The registration deadline is August 19, 2024.
