The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services Stormwater Management Division is organizing a stream clean-up event. The activity will take place at the living shoreline in Windmill Hill Park on Saturday, April 6, from 9 am to 11 am.
Participants are instructed to gather at the intersection of S. Union Street and Gibbon Street for sign-in and an event briefing before proceeding to the cleanup site.
This initiative is part of Earth Month, celebrated annually in April. Eco-City Alexandria plans various events throughout the month to extend Earth Day celebrations and reinforce its dedication to sustainability. Earth Month aims to empower residents to positively impact the environment.
"The City will provide gloves, bags, and first aid kits during the events," according to organizers. Participants should wear long pants and covered footwear and bring water.
For registration or more information, individuals can contact nolan.compton@alexandriava.gov.
In addition to participating in clean-up events, residents can protect community water resources by picking up after pets, reducing fertilizer use, and using Alex311 to report suspicious activities in local waterways.
