Alexandria, VA – Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire is continuing his efforts to engage with the community through a series of scheduled conversations. These sessions aim to gather input and feedback on public safety and the operations of the Alexandria Police Department (APD).
The upcoming meetings are set for Thursday, January 16, from 6-7 p.m. at Charles Houston Recreation Center, Tuesday, January 21, from 6:15-7:15 p.m. at William Ramsay Elementary School, and Tuesday, February 11, from 6-7 p.m. at Duncan Library.
The first meeting took place on December 27 in the Chirilagua community where residents expressed concerns about neighborhood street safety, pedestrian safety, the need for crossing guards, school safety, and nighttime personal security.
“As the department considers strategies to address public safety action items," stated Chief McGuire. "It’s critical we have our community stakeholders, residents, business owners and operators at the table so we move forward with a shared vision and ownership in the plan as One Alexandria and One APD.”
Chief McGuire introduced a 100-Day Action Plan during his initial week in office that emphasizes gathering feedback from both internal and external stakeholders. He is committed to collaborative community policing by visiting various neighborhoods throughout Alexandria. Community members are encouraged to participate in these discussions to directly interact with Chief McGuire.
In response to community input received during these sessions, APD plans to work collaboratively with local residents to develop strategies addressing raised issues. The department will maintain transparency by keeping the community informed about these plans and their progress.
