The City of Alexandria has announced a schedule for service changes and closures in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 20. All city government offices will be closed on this day.

DASH bus services will operate on a Saturday schedule, with lines 102, 103, and 104 not running. Regular weekday service is set to resume on Tuesday, January 21. For detailed route schedules, residents are encouraged to visit dashbus.com/schedules. The King Street Trolley will maintain its regular service from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square every 15 minutes between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Animal adoptions will be available from noon until the facility closes at 5 p.m., while emergency animal or wildlife concerns can be reported by calling 703.746.4444.

The city's courts—including the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Circuit Court—and their respective offices will also be closed.

Emergency hotlines remain operational around the clock throughout the year. These include Child Protective Services (703.746.5800), Domestic Violence Hotline (703.746.4911), Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline (703.746.3401), Adult Protective Services hotline (703.746.5778 or 988), and Sexual Assault Hotline (703.683.7273).

Healthcare facilities such as the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and Teen Wellness Center will not open on January 20.

Historic Alexandria museums are scheduled to close for the holiday as well.

Parking enforcement by the Alexandria Police Department at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts will be suspended; however, temporary no-parking signs remain enforceable.

Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility along with Charles Houston Recreation and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers will operate from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., whereas other recreational facilities and nature centers under city management will not open.

Residential refuse collection services including recycling and yard waste pickup are postponed by one day during that week due to the holiday closure of the Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center on January 20.

Curbside food waste collection services remain unaffected by these changes.

Lastly, certain venues like those listed at torpedofactory.org/visit may have adjusted hours with potential early closures at times like 5 p.m., so visitors should verify in advance if planning visits after normal operating hours.
