The City of Alexandria's Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is set to open registration for its Summer of Smiles 2025 program. Starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, city residents can register, while non-residents can begin registering on Friday, February 21. Registration is available both online and in person at any recreation facility.
The Summer of Smiles program offers a wide range of camp options for youth aged 2 to 17. The program guide, accessible online, details over 75 camps covering sports, creative arts, computers, nature, performing arts, excursions, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Camp Adventure, Out of School Time activities, and classic camps. "Campers get the most out of summer by participating in a different camp each week," according to the announcement.
To assist with planning summer activities for children, the Summer Fun Finder is included in the guide's inside covers. Additionally, extended care options are available for select camps to provide extra time for parents. These include before care from 7 to 9 a.m. and after care from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring structured activities such as arts and crafts, movies, and games.
Financial assistance is offered for those who need it to participate in the programs. More information about financial aid options can be found through community resources provided by the department.
