On April 16, 2025, Beyer highlighted the economic impact of deep cuts to the federal workforce and grant programs championed by Elon Musk, stating they have cost thousands of Virginians their jobs and warned of further risks. He criticized governmental support for such policies, noting "This is a massive threat to Virginia’s economy… So disappointing to see Governor Youngkin cheer on policies" facilitated in part by Trump's tariffs.
