Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding recent actions by the Trump administration and DOGE. His statements on Twitter have highlighted what he perceives as significant overreach in executive authority.
On March 19, 2025, Rep. Beyer criticized the use of force by Trump and DOGE to break into the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). He stated that this action represented an infringement on the rights of private nonprofits and accused the administration of undermining democracy and compromising organizational independence. "Trump and DOGE grossly overstepped executive authority by using force to break into USIP."
Later that day, Beyer shared another post describing an incident at USIP two nights prior, where he observed that DOGE had unlawfully removed nonprofit workers from their jobs after allegedly picking a lock to gain entry. He emphasized the misuse of law enforcement in these actions. "If you have to pick a lock to get in somewhere something fishy might be going on."
In a subsequent tweet, Beyer referenced Judge Chuang's decision which aligned with his views on Elon Musk and DOGE's attempts to dismantle USAID. He labeled these efforts as illegal and unconstitutional while describing them as an authoritarian assault on a federal agency funded by Congress. "Judge Chuang’s decision emphasizes what we have been saying: Elon Musk and DOGE’s efforts to dismantle USAID are illegal."
