On March 20, 2025, Rep. Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump for actions he perceives as harmful to federal workers and American democracy. In his tweet, "Trump is relentless in persecuting federal workers, attacking American democracy, and doing the bidding of dictators who hate the USA." He further commented on the potential closure of USAGM and Voice of America, stating that their loss would negatively impact "freedom-loving people all over the world."

Later that day, at 20:50 UTC, Beyer addressed proposed educational cuts by Trump. He stated that such measures seemed illegal and would have detrimental effects on teachers and students alike. According to him, "Teachers will be fired, schools will suffer, students will go hungry..." He attributed these cuts to tax reductions for billionaires.

Finally, at 22:40 UTC on March 20th, Beyer turned his attention to Governor Youngkin's policies regarding education in Virginia. Criticizing Youngkin's support for dismantling the Department of Education and reducing federal jobs' security within Virginia, he tweeted "Governor Youngkin's support for dismantling the Department of Education...is so harmful to Virginia."
