The City of Alexandria's Office of the Arts, in collaboration with artist Nekisha Durrett, is set to unveil "Break Water," the latest addition to the Site See: New Views in Old Town public art series. The opening celebration will take place on Saturday, March 22.

"Break Water" is inspired by Alexandria’s waterfront, a location where natural elements and human activities converge with significant impact. D.C.-based artist Nekisha Durrett uses mass media's visual language to highlight histories embedded within places, objects, and words that often go unrecognized. Through thorough research and material exploration, she uncovers historical narratives present today that are frequently overlooked.

Site See: New Views in Old Town is a nationally acclaimed public art series featuring temporary installations that highlight Alexandria’s public art initiatives through contemporary works at a prominent riverfront site. Each piece in the series draws inspiration from the historic waterfront and its surrounding community.
