A transformer fire has led to the closure of King St. between Quincy St. and Kenwood Ave. in Alexandria, affecting the area near Alexandria City High School and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center. The incident is likely to impact morning commutes.

Authorities, including the Alexandria Police Department and Dominion Energy, are present at the site. However, Dominion Energy does not expect to finish their work until noon.

Due to the power outage, Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will open later than usual today, expected around 1 p.m., once Dominion completes its repairs. The Chinquapin Pool will remain closed for the day but plans to reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 22.

For updates on the power outage or to check its status, visit dominionenergy.com/outages or call 866.366.4357.

Commuters are advised to anticipate longer travel times this morning and consider using alternative routes such as West Braddock Rd., Duke St., Quaker Ln., and Glebe Rd.
