On April 3, 2025, Beyer revealed, "I was surprised to get an invitation to meet with Secretary McMahon at the Department of Education, but I thought it was important for her to hear directly from me about the harm she and Trump are inflicting on my constituents, and on students and educators across the country."
Later that day, Beyer addressed concerns about tariff policies, stating, "Each Trump tariff uses specific legal authorities. He's abusing them in ways their drafters did not intend. I'm working with @WaysMeansCmte Trade Subcommittee colleagues on legislation to reform those authorities and stop Trump from wrecking the economy. Info on those bills—"
