Do you own or operate a publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charger that is currently non-operational? The City of Alexandria may be able to help.
Under the Department of Transportation’s Electric Vehicle Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator Program, the City can apply for federal funding to help repair or replace your eligible charging station, potentially saving you 80% of the cost.
What Kinds of EV Chargers are Eligible?
To be eligible, the EV charging station must be publicly accessible and listed as “temporarily unavailable” because they are broken or non-operational on the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center’s (AFCD) Station Locator. Check Alexandria’s AFCD stations here.
“Publicly accessible” means the equipment is available to the public without restriction. A station that is not maintained or restricts access only to customers, tenants, employees, or other consumers is not publicly accessible.
If you operate a publicly accessible EV charger with ports that are broken or non-operational that is NOT listed in the AFDC database as “temporarily unavailable,” you have until Tuesday, October 10 to report the status of the station to AFDC to be eligible to participate in the grant program.
The grant has a 20% cost share requirement, which the station owner must provide to participate in this grant. The federal government has allocated up to $100 million toward this initiative.
Contact Amy Posner, Office of Climate Action’s EV Planner, at amy.posner@alexandriava.gov for assistance with adding your EV station to the AFDC station locator or with any questions about eligibility or participation in the grant program. Please reach out by October 6 to ensure you receive help before the deadline.
