The City of Alexandria is actively seeking input and feedback from the community regarding the proposed Potomac Yard Entertainment District. In order to facilitate this, the city is hosting a series of listening sessions and town hall meetings where residents can share their thoughts and concerns.
The first opportunity to participate is the listening session happening today, January 25 at 7 p.m. This session will focus on topics such as schools, housing, and other community benefits. To join, interested individuals are asked to fill out the listening session registration form.
In addition to the listening session, the City Council will be hosting a town hall meeting on Saturday, January 27, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This meeting will take place at the Charles Houston Recreation Center and will include a brief presentation on the project. Members of the City Council will be present to address questions, concerns, and feedback from the community.
The City of Alexandria is committed to ensuring that the needs and concerns of the community are heard and understood. To further engage with the public, there will be upcoming listening sessions focused on transportation and traffic management on February 1, and small business and economic opportunity on February 8.
In addition to these sessions, there are several other engagement opportunities for residents to participate in. The city will be providing biweekly public updates, sharing new information during City Council legislative meetings and reports from the General Assembly. Civic and business organizations will also have the opportunity to host project presentations and listening sessions to gather community input.
To make it convenient for residents to provide their input, the city will be organizing pop-up events at high-traffic areas such as Farmers Markets, where individuals can ask questions and provide comments. There will also be pre-scheduled site tours for those who wish to view and understand the area being developed as part of the proposal.
To ensure ongoing engagement, the city will assign staff liaisons to neighborhoods who will facilitate day-to-day contact and communication.
More information about all of these events and opportunities can be found on the official websites alexandriava.gov/EntertainmentDistrict and MonumentalOpportunity.com.
