The Alexandria Police Department is actively investigating an attempted abduction incident involving an adult woman at Holmes Run Dog Park. The incident occurred around 6 p.m., with the suspect grabbing the woman from behind. She managed to fend off her attacker, who subsequently fled the scene. No arrests have been made as of yet.

Detectives from the APD Criminal Investigations Division are revisiting the area, particularly focusing on business and warehouse owners along Wheeler Avenue and South Gordon Street, to gather more evidence and information.

In response to the incident, patrols in the area have been increased. The community is urged to report any suspicious activity by contacting the APD non-emergency number at 703-746-4444. The department emphasizes: "If you see something, say something."

An online portal has been set up by APD for public submissions of potential evidence. Detectives encourage anyone with audio, photographs, or video from approximately 5:30 p.m. onward in that area to upload it via the provided portal link or QR code. Contributions can be anonymous. For further details or information about this case, individuals can reach out to Detective R. Clinch at 703-746-6673 or ryan.clinch@alexandriava.gov.

Earlier reports indicated police presence at Tarleton Park near S. Gordon Street and Wheeler Ave due to the attempted abduction. The victim described her assailant as a white male with brown hair, wearing a blue sweatshirt and camouflage shorts, who tried pulling her into a wooded section of the park before she successfully escaped unharmed.

To aid in locating the suspect, a perimeter was established by APD officers on-site using K9 units and support from Fairfax One Helicopter.
