Alexandria outlines steps for smooth voting process on November election day

On November 5, 2024, a General Election will take place in the City of Alexandria. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The city has outlined several steps for voters to prepare.

All registered voters in Virginia can vote early until Saturday, November 2, at 5 p.m. Early voting locations include the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library, George Washington Middle School, and Minnie Howard Campus of Alexandria City High School.

Voters must confirm their designated polling places before heading out on Election Day. Changes have been made to some polling locations due to construction or other reasons: Olympus Condos precinct voters will now vote at 6101 Stevenson Avenue; South Port Apartments precinct voters will vote at Tucker School; Masonic Temple precinct has moved to Douglas MacArthur Elementary School; two new precincts are Del Pepper Center and The View Alexandria.

The ballot includes contests for US President and Vice President, US Senate, US House of Representatives, Mayor, City Council, School Board and a proposed Constitutional Amendment. Voters are encouraged to research candidates as election officials cannot provide candidate information.

Identification is required for voting in Virginia. Acceptable forms include a Virginia driver’s license or voter confirmation documents among others listed on the Virginia Department of Elections website. Voters without ID may sign an ID confirmation statement to use a regular ballot.

Voters planning to cast their votes late must be in line by 7 p.m., or they will not be allowed to vote. Same Day Registration is available for those who missed the October 15 registration deadline but involves casting a provisional ballot.

The Office of Voter Registration & Elections offers assistance for any concerns about the voting process or sites via phone or email. After polls close at 7 p.m., unofficial results will be posted online with official results certified later by Electoral Boards.

For further details or reasonable disability accommodations, contact the Office of Voter Registration & Elections via email or phone.
