Historic Alexandria is set to host the Alexandria Forum on Friday, October 18, 2024. The symposium will focus on civil rights history and its current relevance. The event will be held at the Virginia Theological Seminary’s Lettie Pate Whitehead Room in Alexandria.

The forum coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It aims to explore the evolution of civil rights both in Alexandria and more broadly, reflecting on how these historical movements continue to influence modern struggles for equality and justice.

A keynote address by Dr. Krystyn Moon from the University of Mary Washington will highlight "Housing Activism in Mid-Twentieth Century Alexandria." This presentation will examine local housing activism efforts that have shaped the city.

Throughout the day, attendees can participate in lectures, view short films, and join a panel discussion focused on promoting historical truth and fostering racial healing. Networking opportunities are also available during a happy hour concluding at 4:30 p.m.

The forum runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a continental breakfast and boxed lunches. Tickets cost $65, with discounts for Historic Alexandria members and students at $45.

Tickets can be purchased online through Historic Alexandria's website. For further details or disability accommodations, contact Nicole Quinn via email or phone as provided in their announcement.

Historic Alexandria aims to preserve and share the city's history through various programs while enhancing life quality for residents and visitors alike.
