All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day. Schools will also not be in session for students on Friday, August 30, and Monday, September 2.
Public transportation adjustments include DASH bus service operating on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. The free King Street Trolley will maintain its usual service from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square every 15 minutes between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Several city services and facilities will be closed or have altered schedules on September 2. Courts including the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Circuit Court, and related offices will be closed to the public. Residents are advised to verify hours at local DMV Select locations due to possible deviations from the state holiday closing schedule.
Emergency hotlines remain operational around the clock throughout the year. These include the Child Protective Services Hotline at 703.746.5800; Domestic Violence Hotline at 703.746.4911; Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703.746.3401; Adult Protective Services hotline at 703.746.5778 or 988; and Sexual Assault Hotline at 703.683.7273.
The Alexandria Health Department along with Flora Krause Casey Health Center and Teen Wellness Centers located at Alexandria City High School’s King Street Campus and Minnie Howard Campus will not be open on Labor Day.
While all museums adhere to their standard schedules that day, library branches across Alexandria will close their doors for the holiday.
Parking enforcement by the Alexandria Police Department will pause enforcement of parking restrictions in metered spaces and residential permit areas but does not extend to normally prohibited zones where temporary no-parking signs are still enforced.
Recreation facilities have varied schedules: Warwick Pool and Old Town Pool operate from 10 a.m.-4:45 p.m., Charles Houston Recreation Center and Patrick Henry Recreation Center are open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., while other recreation sites are closed entirely.
Additionally, household hazardous waste electronic collection drop-off centers won’t accept items on this day, resulting in one-day delays for residential refuse collection during that week.
