The Alexandria Health Department is inviting residents to participate in the 2024 Community Health Assessment, starting with an event on October 1 at Patrick Henry Recreation Center. This assessment aims to explore various health data and engage community members in discussions about their experiences.

The department emphasizes that all Alexandrians should have the opportunity to thrive. Factors such as structural racism, discrimination, housing, parks, and grocery stores affect residents' health. The assessment offers a platform for residents to express their concerns and priorities regarding health issues. Their input will be combined with data analysis to identify the city's top health challenges and understand their causes.

The kick-off event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., featuring activities for children aged four and older. Attendees will learn about the assessment process, its community impact, and participation opportunities. They will also hear about involvement options with the Department of Community and Human Services’ Children and Youth Community Plan and Alexandria City Public Schools’ Strategic Plan.

The public is welcome to attend this free event, which includes a boxed meal and children's activities. Interpreters in Spanish, Amharic, and Dari will be present, with other languages available upon request if arranged in advance. Registration can be completed online or by calling 703-244-5654.

Results from the Community Health Assessment will guide Alexandria's next Community Health Improvement Plan. More information is available on the Community Health Assessment & Improvement Plan website.
