The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services is responsible for maintaining sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of road. The city's repaving, patching, sidewalk, and alley programs aim to keep infrastructure in good condition for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and all users.
Businesses and residents are notified in advance if their streets are scheduled for repaving. This notification typically comes through displayed project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will also be posted before work begins to prevent tickets and towing.
It is important to note that the street repaving list and schedule can change due to factors such as weather conditions, equipment availability, other ongoing city projects, and utility work coordination.
Scheduled citywide street repaving from July 1 to July 7 includes South Bragg Street (from city limits to end), Ford Avenue (from Park Center Drive to end), and Banks Place (from North Morgan Street to end).
Recently completed street repaving projects include Cameron Station Boulevard (from Duke Street to South Pickett Street). Asphalt base repairs scheduled for July 2024 will take place at locations including 100 North Ripley Street, 5405 Duke Street, 3690 King Street, 800 King Street (at the intersection with Columbus Street), 3301 Commonwealth Avenue, and 3401 Commonwealth Avenue.
