The Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC) and the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) have published the Alexandria Community Needs Assessment report. This assessment, based on data from 2020 to 2023, examines the challenges faced by the City of Alexandria in specific areas, identifies gaps, and suggests potential solutions. The focus areas include childcare, employment, food security, healthcare, and housing.
The strategic plan of the City of Alexandria emphasizes creating a caring and equitable city that supports an affordable and livable community for everyone. Achieving this goal involves ensuring that residents with low incomes can enjoy a quality of life that allows them to prosper. The needs assessment is designed to help identify areas where additional work is required.
The EOC advocates for residents living with low income to ensure equitable economic opportunities for thriving. It acts as an advisory board to DCHS’s Office of Community Services, which serves as Alexandria’s Community Action Agency.
