The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services is in charge of maintaining and repairing sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of road. The department's programs for repaving, patching, sidewalks, and alleys demonstrate a commitment to keeping infrastructure in good condition for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and all users traveling through the city.

Residents and businesses on streets scheduled for resurfacing receive advance notice through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted before work begins to prevent tickets and towing.

The street resurfacing list and schedule may change due to factors like weather conditions, equipment issues, other city projects, or utility work coordination.

Scheduled street resurfacing from May 13-19 includes:

- 100 block of North Royal Street (night work from King Street to Cameron Street)

- Queen Street (from North West Street to North Union Street)

- North Quaker Lane (from Duke Street to West Braddock Road)

Recently completed projects include:

- East and West Mason Avenue (from Stonewall Road to end)

- East and West Del Ray Avenue (from Russell Road to La Grande Avenue)

- Clyde Avenue (entire length from East Bellefonte Avenue to East Uhler Avenue)

- North Washington Street (Cameron Street to First Street)

- Potomac Greens Drive (from Slaters Lane to end)

- West Mount Ida Avenue (from Commonwealth Avenue to Russell Road)
