The City of Alexandria is focusing on preventing dating violence and fostering healthy relationships among its youth through the Children & Youth Community Plan 2025 (CYCP). This initiative sets long-term priorities for children from birth to 21 years old, aiming to ensure their physical safety, academic success, and positive experiences.

Each month, the CYCP issues a report card highlighting progress in specific areas. Recently, it examined efforts in teen dating violence prevention and promoting healthy relationships. The report emphasizes the role of Keep It 360 Youth Peer Advocates and other collaborators in helping young people form safe relationships characterized by mutual respect, good communication, and consent.

The CYCP works alongside the City's Unified Implementation Team, which includes the Department of Community and Human Services CYCP Coordinator, Alexandria City Public Schools, and the Alexandria Health Department. Their collaboration aligns strategic plans around shared goals guided by trauma-informed approaches, racial equity initiatives aimed at correcting systemic inequities affecting BIPOC communities, and developmental assets to counter adverse childhood experiences.

Residents are encouraged to learn about available resources for youth within the city. Interpretation services are offered for non-English speakers by contacting LanguageAccess@alexandriava.gov or calling 703.746.3960.
