The Alexandria Police Department is seeking public assistance in the investigation of a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man. On May 9, 2024, at around 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of an adult male lying on the road at North Jordan Street and Taney Avenue. The man, identified as James Thomson from Alexandria, was found with a head injury and informed officers he had been struck by a vehicle.

Thomson was taken to a hospital where his injuries were initially deemed non-life-threatening. However, before his release, his condition worsened, leading to his death on May 18.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Thomson's death. Meanwhile, the Alexandria Police Department continues its active investigation into the hit-and-run case.

The department's Traffic Safety Section is requesting help from the public to locate witnesses or obtain video footage related to the incident. Information can be submitted anonymously through a provided link: https://alexandriapdva.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/taneyandjordan.
