The City of Alexandria is set to commence its Seventh Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Month on June 1 with a Pride fair at City Hall and Market Square, located at 301 King Street. The event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy live music, a DJ, and participate in a dance workshop. Food trucks will be available for refreshments, and there will be opportunities for creative expression at the mobile art lab. Visitors can also pose for Pride-themed pictures and explore over 50 tables showcasing various Pride-celebrating programs in Alexandria. At 3:30 p.m., the popular Drag Story Hour will be held inside City Hall.

The event offers free and confidential health services, and Mayor Wilson is scheduled to present the 2024 Pride Month Proclamation. Attendees are encouraged to view DASH's Pride-wrapped bus and cross the newly revealed rainbow crosswalks at Royal and King Streets.

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated annually to honor LGBTQ+ individuals and their global influence while raising awareness about the challenges faced by the community in their pursuit of civil rights. June was chosen as Pride Month to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969, an event that sparked the LGBTQ rights movement in the United States.
