The City of Alexandria's Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities has announced the opening of registration for its Out of School Time Program (OSTP) for the 2024-25 school year. The program is designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade and will run from August 19, 2024, to June 12, 2025. It will be held at various recreation centers and ACPS elementary schools including Charles Barrett, Charles Houston, Leonard "Chick" Armstrong, Mount Vernon, Patrick Henry, William Ramsay, Ferdinand T. Day, John Adams, and Douglas MacArthur.

The OSTP fee is set at $792 for the school year. However, reduced rates are available: $305 with documentation for free or reduced-price school meals; $255 with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; or $149 with Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) benefits. These fees may increase beginning July 1.

Additionally, the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center will offer its Youth Achieving Greatness Program (YAG), which includes structured enrichment activities aimed at enhancing learning and social skills. This program also runs from August 19, 2024, to June 12, 2025. The fee is $1195 for the school year with financial assistance available.

Both programs are exclusive to City residents and require adherence to specific pre-registration and registration procedures. A pre-registration period for residents qualifying for financial assistance is scheduled from June 9 to June 14. During this time, forms can be accessed online or picked up at designated locations such as the Lee Center Registration and Reservation Office and several recreation centers across Alexandria.

Eligibility verification requires submission of pre-registration forms by June 14. Applicants will enter a computerized lottery that determines their selection order or placement on a waitlist if necessary. Selected applicants will receive notifications starting June 19 with further instructions on enrollment completion by June 24.

General online-only registration opens on Wednesday, June 26 at 9 a.m., followed by both in-person and online registration on Thursday, June 27 for any remaining spots.

For those needing communication in another language or reasonable accommodation services can contact via phone or email as provided by the city.
