On November 25, nine deputy sheriffs from Alexandria completed their training at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy’s first Deputy School. The graduates were part of Session 151 Deputy School, which included a total of 24 members. Among them were eight deputies from the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office and seven from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The ceremony took place in Ashburn, attended by Alexandria Sheriff Sean Casey and his command and training staff. Lieutenant Colonel Casey Lingan of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office delivered the keynote speech.

The program lasted for ten weeks and focused on various aspects crucial for law enforcement officers. The training covered jail operations, court security, emergency vehicle operations, firearms training, physical fitness and wellness, control tactics, active bystandership, legal education, civil processes, inmate supervision, search procedures for cells and individuals, CPR and first aid training, as well as serving diverse communities.

Sheriff Casey emphasized the importance of this training: “Our primary responsibility is the safe and secure operation of the Alexandria Adult Detention Center, and this rigorous training emphasizes critical knowledge and skills necessary for our deputies to excel in their new careers.”

Following their graduation, these new deputies will undergo field training at the Sheriff’s Office before they begin their duties at the Adult Detention Center.
