The City of Alexandria is preparing for the Dual Presidential Primary Elections scheduled for Tuesday, March 5. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters are encouraged to prepare in advance.
Registered voters in Virginia have the option to vote early, with the deadline for in-person early voting set for Saturday, March 2, at 5 p.m. Early voting can be done at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections located at 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100. The office will be open on Thursday, February 29, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, March 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Voters planning to cast their ballots on Election Day must do so at their designated polling places between the hours of operation. Changes have been made to some polling locations: "The former South Port Apartments Precinct will vote at the Tucker School (435 Ferdinand Day Drive)." Additionally, "The Masonic Temple Precinct has been relocated to Douglas MacArthur Elementary School (1101 Janney’s Ln.)." Two new precincts have also been introduced in the West End area.
On Election Day, ballots will feature contests for either the Democratic or Republican nominee for President of the United States. Voters may participate in one primary only and must inform the Pollbook officer of their choice without facing challenges.
Identification is required when voting; acceptable forms include a Virginia driver’s license or U.S. passport among others listed on the Virginia Department of Elections website. Those without ID may sign an ID confirmation statement or use a provisional ballot if necessary.
For those who missed registering by February 12, Same Day Registration is available with provisional ballots issued under this option.
The Office of Voter Registration & Elections encourages anyone needing assistance during voting to reach out via phone or email provided in their contact information.
After polls close on March 5 at 7 p.m., unofficial results will be posted online by Alexandria election officials as state and local Electoral Boards work towards certifying official results in subsequent weeks.
For further inquiries or disability accommodations related to voting procedures, contact details are available through various channels including email and phone numbers provided by city officials.
