Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, has expressed concerns through a series of tweets regarding various national security issues. Don Beyer, who has been in office since succeeding former Congress member Jim Moran, continues to voice critical opinions on political events involving Trump affiliates and national security breaches.
On March 27, 2025, Rep. Don Beyer stated his concerns over perceived cynicism within the Republican Party regarding former President Trump's influence on national security matters. Beyer cited, "But the reality is that Republicans are endlessly cynical about anything Trump touches, including national security and Americans' safety." He further claimed, "Bondi sees the Justice Department as a political arm of Trump's White House, she won't do her job." Beyer concluded by calling for a special counsel.
Later that day, Beyer criticized the Secretary of Defense citing a serious communication failure, stating, "The Secretary of Defense was apparently too busy yesterday lying to the American people about his illegal disclosure of classified information to brief the President, who was clueless hours later about the loss of four American soldiers near the Belarusian border."
In a third tweet dated March 27, 2025, Beyer addressed an issue concerning Rep. Mike Waltz and Pete Hegseth’s statements about exposure of classified information. Beyer remarked, "It now appears Mike Waltz' claim that no sources and methods were exposed in the Signal chain he created - like Hegseth's similar, false claim that no classified info was shared - was also false." Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, he stated, "This is an extraordinary breach of security. Both of them should resign."
